Introduction
Building an online teaching business isn’t just about offering great lessons—it’s about connecting with your audience in a way that makes them trust you, remember you, and feel excited to work with you. That’s why email marketing is so powerful.
In June, we kicked off our Email Sequence Challenge to help teachers learn exactly how to nurture leads and turn subscribers into paying students—on autopilot.
If you’re building your email list, and now you’re thinking…
Ok…NOW what?! What do I do with this list?
You’re not alone, and in this challenge, we learned exactly what to do, and built our own email sequences.
Why Email Sequences Matter
If you’ve ever wondered how successful teachers keep their schedule full without constantly chasing new students, the answer often comes down to email marketing.
A good email sequence:
✅ Builds trust over time
✅ Educates your audience about your services
✅ Makes it easy for people to take action when they’re ready
Instead of manually following up with every person who downloads your freebie, an email sequence does it for you—automatically and consistently.
This is especially important for online teachers, because your audience is often spread across different time zones and may take days or weeks to make a decision. Email sequences let you stay top of mind without having to spend hours sending individual follow-ups. They also help you build trust in a professional way and educate parents or adult learners about your approach, so that when they are ready to enroll, they already feel like they know you. When readers feel like they know you, it lowers their resistance to buying and makes it easier for them to trust that you genuinely care about their success. They see you not as a stranger selling a service but as a familiar guide who understands their challenges and has the expertise to help them succeed.
About the Email Sequence Challenge
The Email Sequence Challenge was designed to help teachers:
- Understand the fundamentals of email marketing
- Create sequences that feel personal and engaging
- Learn how to set everything up inside their email platform
Throughout the challenge, we worked step by step to develop sequences that fit each teacher’s goals—whether that was promoting a freebie, selling a course, or filling private lessons.
What We Covered
Here’s a quick overview of what participants learned:
✅ Day 1: Strategy & Psychology
- What an email sequence is
- Why it works
✅ Day 2: Crafting Your Emails
- Writing copy that connects
- Using the 8 Persuasion Switches
- Building trust through stories
✅ Day 3: Automation & Implementation
- Setting up sequences
- Personalizing emails with subscriber names
- Testing your flow so everything runs smoothly
We also walked through two core sequence types:
- New Subscribers to an Evergreen Offer
- For leads who sign up for a freebie or newsletter
- Nurture them with value before inviting them to buy
- Existing Subscribers to a Limited-Time Offer
- Reconnect with people already on your list
- Promote a special, time-limited opportunity

Persuasion Switches
A big part of the challenge was learning the 8 Persuasion Switches—powerful psychological triggers that make people say yes.
The Persuasion Switches are essential because they help you connect emotionally and logically with your audience. Each switch taps into a different motivation or desire—from curiosity and urgency to the feeling of belonging. When you build your emails to include these triggers, you make it easier for potential students to see the value in what you offer, trust your expertise, and take action. These switches turn your emails from generic messages into compelling conversations that resonate on a deeper level.
Here’s a quick look:
- Prestige Switch: My status will be elevated
- Believability Switch: This offer will get me unstuck
- Parity Switch: This is the best option
- Curiosity Switch: I need to know more
- Urgency Switch: I have to act now
- Desirability Switch: I can’t walk away without this
- Edutainment Switch: I learned and had fun
- Relatability Switch: This person is like me

Teachers learned how to weave these switches into their emails naturally, so each message felt authentic and persuasive.
More About Each Persuasion Switch
Prestige Switch: Appeals to your audience’s desire to improve their status or credibility. For example, showing how your lessons help students get promotions or higher test scores.
Believability Switch: Builds trust that your solution works, even for people who feel stuck. Sharing testimonials or proof makes your offer feel attainable.
Parity Switch: Positions you as the best choice among all options. Comparisons and unique selling points can make your service stand out.
Curiosity Switch: Sparks intrigue and makes people want to learn more. Teasing a result or hinting at exclusive strategies keeps readers engaged.
Urgency Switch: Motivates quick action by showing why they shouldn’t wait. Limited-time offers or enrollment deadlines are examples.
Desirability Switch: Amplifies the feeling of wanting your offer so much they can’t ignore it. Painting a vivid picture of transformation is key.
Edutainment Switch: Combines education and entertainment. When your emails are enjoyable to read, people look forward to them.
Relatability Switch: Makes your audience feel you truly understand them. Sharing your own story helps them see that you’ve been where they are.
